The GCE Ordinary Level (O Level) is the first major milestone in the Cameroonian secondary education journey, written by Form 5 students. It covers a wide range of foundational subjects across Sciences and Arts — building the academic foundation for the Advanced Level and beyond.
Most GCE Ordinary Level subjects follow a clean two-paper structure. Computer Science is the only subject with a third, practical paper.
Paper 1 — Multiple Choice Questions. 50 questions answered in 1 hour 30 minutes. Tests broad knowledge uniformly across the entire syllabus. Each correct answer scores 1 mark with no negative marking.
Paper 2 — Structured Questions. Duration varies by subject (typically 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes). Tests understanding, analysis, and application through short-answer and extended written responses.
Paper 3 — Computer Science only. A supervised computer laboratory practical session of 2 hours 30 minutes, demonstrating skills in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and programming fundamentals.
Chemistry (0515), Physics (0580), Biology (0510), Human Biology (0565), Mathematics (0570), Additional Mathematics (0575). Paper 2 tests deeper problem-solving and application skills.
English, Literature, French, History, Geography, Economics, Accounting, Commerce, Religious Studies, Logic, Food and Nutrition, Citizenship Education. Paper 2 includes essays, comprehension, and structured responses.
